Modern enterprises operate in a business environment characterized by rapid digital disruption, evolving customer demands, and increasingly stringent security and compliance requirements. To remain competitive and resilient, organizations are compelled to modernize their IT infrastructure transforming legacy systems, adopting cloud‑native architectures, automation, and scalable platforms. This paper examines how infrastructure modernization supports scalable digital transformation initiatives, by improving agility, performance, security, and cost‑efficiency. Through a structured review of literature, we identify common benefits, challenges, and best practices. We propose a conceptual modernization roadmap and architecture for enterprises pursuing scalability and transformation. Our findings suggest that while modernization offers substantial strategic advantages, success hinges on aligning modernization strategies with business goals, governance, and change management.
